Location. The Kaomai Lanna Resort is located between the city of Chiang Mai and Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand. Nearby attractions include the ancient ruins of Chedi Viang Tha Karn.

Hotel Features. The Kaomai Lanna Resort is comprised of renovated tobacco curing barns. The barns stand amid 20 acres of land, where wild orchids burst with color among palm and bamboo gardens. This resort houses an open air restaurant that specializes in northern Lanna Thai cuisine and Chinese delicacies. Chili and sweet basil join countless varieties of herbs grown on the resort's premises. A business center offers fax and photocopy services, and high speed Internet access is available. Function space accommodates group events. Recreational amenities feature an outdoor pool surrounded by parasol shaded teak lounge furniture. The on site fitness facility contains cardiovascular and weight training equipment, a steam bath, a sauna and a spa tub. Instructors offer yoga classes, and a jogging track encircles the gardens. The hotel offers Thai massage, cooking instruction and Lanna art lessons.

Guestrooms. The smoke free Kaomai Lanna Resort offers 18 historic barns converted into 36 guestrooms. Building exteriors are constructed with corrugated steel roofs and red brick walls. Guestroom interiors are decorated in contemporary Thai style. Upper levels contain traditional Thai beds with mattresses set on raised teakwood floors. These upper level rooms are linked by shaded corridors where balconies are draped with passion fruit and grape vines. Accommodations include cable television and telephones. Modern bathrooms contain bathtubs only.

Expert Tip. The Kaomai Lanna Resort offers tours of local hill tribe towns. Another excursion includes visits to the Saa Paper Workshop, where the paper making process is open to the public and visitors may purchase handmade products.
